Ofer Shacham of Majestic Labs: “It’s No Longer a Crack in Nvidia’s Dominance – It’s a Pipeline”

In an interview with Calcalist, Ofer Shacham, Co-founder and CEO of Majestic Labs, lays out a sweeping conversation about AI chips, energy limits, data center economics, and what it would actually take to challenge Nvidia’s hold on the market.

The interview centers on several key questions:

  • How can AI infrastructure continue scaling as data centers consume unprecedented amounts of energy?
  • Why is the industry shifting toward purpose-built AI chips instead of general-purpose processors?
  • Can a startup realistically build a meaningful position in a market where Nvidia controls about 90%?
  • What separates building “another server” from building something that fundamentally changes the economics of compute?
  • Why are investors continuing to deploy capital at scale into AI infrastructure?

Shacham describes a market expected to reach hundreds of billions of dollars annually, potentially even trillions, as demand for AI infrastructure continues to grow. At the same time, data centers running AI workloads are consuming unprecedented amounts of energy, with electricity costs and availability becoming a real constraint. As he puts it, “there are already countries in Europe that don’t allow building data centers because they can’t supply the electricity.”

That pressure is shaping how Majestic Labs positions itself. Rather than competing head-on with Nvidia’s existing systems, the company is focused on solving problems that remain unaddressed. “We are solving a problem that no one has a solution for today,” Shacham says, framing the opportunity as part of “a once-in-a-century opportunity in AI…I’m not selling them another server like Nvidia’s, but 20% cheaper. I’m selling a server that lets them serve 10 times more customers on the same infrastructure.” At the same time, he is clear about the competitive landscape, noting that “we’re not competing between startups – we’re all competing against the gorillas of the market”.

What stands out about Majestic Labs’ approach?

Majestic Labs is developing AI-specific processors and highly efficient servers designed to reduce energy consumption and handle growing computational demand. The company raised $100 million shortly after founding, with strong demand from investors, and is already working with customers participating in the design process.

The goal is not to replace existing systems entirely, but to enter new data centers and solve specific problems where current infrastructure is less efficient.
