Wiliot Wins ‘Transportation Innovation of the Year’ at the 2025 Parcel and Postal Technology International Awards

Transportation Innovation of the Year

Wiliot was named Transportation Innovation of the Year at the 2025 Parcel and Postal Technology International Awards, a recognition that celebrates Wiliot’s groundbreaking collaboration with Royal Mail and their global-scale deployment of ambient IoT technology, which is redefining how logistics assets are tracked, utilized, and optimized.

As part of this multi-phase rollout, Royal Mail deployed over 900,000 Wiliot IoT Pixels, tiny, battery-free sensors about the size of a postage stamp, on rolling cages (“Yorks”) that move more than one billion parcels and letters every year. These Pixels harvest energy from ambient radio waves and continuously transmit data on location and movement.

Using Bluetooth-enabled readers installed across 8,000 Royal Mail vehicles and within sorting and distribution centers, the system creates a low-cost, energy-efficient, always-on visibility layer across the entire operation. This real-time intelligence enables Royal Mail to understand where each cage is, how it is being used, and how assets flow through the network.

Unlike barcode or RFID-based systems, Wiliot’s platform delivers continuous, automated tracking with no manual input—unlocking optimized loading, reduced idle assets, better fuel efficiency, and meaningful progress toward carbon reduction goals.

The deployment spans three phases:
1. Cage and vehicle tracking
2. In-facility visibility
3. Parcel-level tracking

Early insights are already revealing blind spots, enhancing utilization, and improving operational reliability for Royal Mail and its customers.

A huge congratulations to the entire Wiliot team for achieving this industry-wide recognition and pushing the boundaries of what ambient IoT can make possible at global scale.
